Conference Update

Plans for the  27th West Indies Agricultural Economics Conference, of the Caribbean Agro-Economic Society, which will be held jointly with the 8th conference of the Asociacion De LatinoAmerica y Del Caribe De Economistas Agricolas (ALACEA) in Belize City, Belize from July 23rd to 27th  2007 are progressing very well.

This year’s theme of the conference is “Improving Marketing and Sustaining Natural Resources Systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Persons whose abstracts have been accepted are reminded that they are required to bring a soft copy of their final paper on CD or stick, to the Conference.

The preferred group rates offered for the conference participants are US$75 + 9%
hotel taxes for standard single or double rooms and US$150 + 9% hotel taxes for Junior Suites. These rates include buffet breakfast and a welcome drink. Lunch at a reduced price will also be available for Conference participants to facilitate a more timely and efficient conference.

Non-members- US$200

Membership

By now members presenting papers may be  well underway with preparing their presentations. It is however not too late to invite colleagues and friends to join the association and/or to attend the conference in Belize. The conference promises to be stimulating and thought provoking and there will be an exciting field day to various sites in Belize. Persons attending the conference can also take this opportunity to  take on pre-conference (attached) and/or post-conference tourism tours to Belize and/or neighbouring Mexico and Guatemala.                                 

Membership fees are US$60 per annum and includes annual subscription to the journal Tropical Agriculture, while membership fees for students and seniors (over 60 years of age and not working) are US$15 per annum. Students and seniors requiring copies of Tropical Agriculture are required to pay the full membership fee of US$60 per annum. All members, especially members of the Executive and Country Representatives, are requested to make a special effort to encourage eligible persons to join the Association and/or to attend the conference in Belize.

CAES to meet in Belize in 2007 - CALL FOR PAPERS

This is the theme of the joint CAES/ALACEA (Asociacion De LatinoAmerica Y Del Caribe De Economistas Agricolas) conference that will be held in Belize from 23rd to 27th July, 2007.

Dr Pemberton has already represented the CAES Executive at a meeting with the Local Organizing Committee in Belize in August 2005. Another visit is being planned for December. We are still working on details like hotels, field trips etc and will get back to you as soon as all plans are finalized.
