CAES 30th Conference Field Trip 2013

The 30th West Indies Agricultural Economics Conference was held jointly with the 49th Annual Caribbean Food Crop Society (CFCS) Meeting (2013) of the CFCS and the Third International Conference on Postharvest and Quality Management of Horticultural Products of Interest in the Tropics of the International Society for Horticultural Society (ISHS), from 30th June – July 6th, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Based on its theme “Agribusiness Essential for Food Security: Empowering Youth and Enhancing Quality Products” the following trips were planned:

    • Field Trip #1:  comprised of visits to Bundoo’s Farm (Production and Harvesting), Trinidad and Tobago Agribusiness Association (TTABA) (Postproduction and Marketing) and PCS Nitrogen Model Farm (Production, GAPS, Postproduction).
    • Field Trip #2: was made up of visits to the Institute of Marine Affairs (Aquaculture, Coastal Dynamics), the Chaguaramas Agricultural Development Programme and the Royal Botanic Gardens in Port of Spain.
  1. Field Trip #3: where participants visited the Sugar Cane Feeds Centre (Livestock Production, Biogas Technology, Composting), Cunupia Farmers’ Association (Mr. Anil Ramnarine’s Farm) and the Museum at the Caroni Swamp.
